From the class discussion
last week, I noticed that people’s responses were tied to their emotions to
technology. Most classmates shared their emotional anecdotes about, for
example, love-hate, fearful, insecure, disconnected, and magical. This was very
intriguing to me because one can have mixed feelings or the opposite feelings
toward a particular technology. One might hate using Photoshop because there
are many steps needed to remember. However, she/he might like using cellphones
because she/he can communicate and take photos on the phone.
In regard to comments about how technology could be used
as a tool to show off one’s status, I think that is a marketing strategy for
companies to sell their products. I honestly think that most great inventions
and technologies were invented for practical uses. However, now we have the
resource and skills to make these new products to look nice. Therefore,
packaging and advertising play a very important role on our perception,
resulting people always want to get the “best and the earliest version” of something
newly developed.
